Preparing an object for 3D scanning
What to tell the workshop to agree on the scanning deliverable.
Describe the object
Send photos from several sides, overall dimensions and the purpose of the result. Mark shiny, transparent or dark surfaces and closed cavities. State whether the object can be moved and whether temporary surface preparation is acceptable.
Agree on the deliverable
Distinguish a surface scan, a repaired mesh and a reconstructed CAD model. Specify format, scale, required regions and reference dimensions. To reconstruct fits or internal features, provide measurements and documentation.
Plan handover and acceptance
Agree on sample handover, return, timing and acceptance checks. On delivery, verify scale, surface coverage and agreed edits. Do not treat geometry hidden during scanning as measured.
